I've been living on takeout for the last 3 days, and that probably won't change until at least tomorrow night, quite probably the weekend.  I didn't drink enough water yesterday, so I'm reasonably certain that these numbers are low.

Ah, well.  Have a good one, Fatheads.

Oh Saturdays

I have a light hangover this morning.  I killed half a fifth of Jose Cuervo while playing halo last night, so it's hardly unexpected, but it's always unwelcome.

Weight:   290.8 lbs
Body Fat: 38.7%
Water:    47%

I'd say last night was a success.  I had a turkey&bacon sandwich from Jimmy Johns while drinking, and nothing else but fruit.  DISCIRPRINE!

On the way to work yesterday, I grabbed chic-fil-a, and had fruit, a Lean Cuisine Pizza and a granola bar to get me through the remainder of my shift.  I'm heading in later today, and I'm debating packing dinner vs. grabbing dinner out tonight.  On the one hand, packing a dinner means I will eat a good, healthy dinner and snacks.  On the other hand, I am lazy, and it is Saturday.

I'm eating my other turkey and bacon sandwich from Jimmy Johns for breakfast this morning, and then I'm heading off to work to make that cash cash money.

I'd embed the music video, but the only one I saw was the "official" one, and it's the censored version, which is just jarring to listen to, because 3 out of 4 words are blanked out.

Later, Fatheads.

Ah, Fatheads, despite a 12-hour shift, yesterday was a successful diet day.  Ate in accordance with the edicts of the one true healthfood schedule.

This semi-vegetarianism upsets me on a philosophical level, when I allow myself to think of it.  Meat is delicious, meat is good, meat should be a part of my daily diet.

Ah well, I'm planning on grabbing Chic-Fil-A for lunch today (no fries) so that will counter my brief carnistential crisis.  Time to pack dinner and hop in the shower.

Take care, Fatheads.

I'm grabbing breakfast and crafting a mine at the moment, then on to shower.  I will never make a Minecraft video, because I work for a living.

A Taste of The Future

I had two 12-hour days at the plant this weekend, so I'm beat.  I had to go on takeout yesterday.  Grabbed a medium Arby's roast beef sandwich for lunch (no fries) and a five guys bacon cheeseburger with fries for dinner.

Weight:   297.8 lbs
Body Fat: 41%
Water:    45.2%

I'm down from Saturday, at least.  I'm pretty much stuck grabbing takeout today, because I'm low on groceries and I haven't had time to get to the store.  My plan's to grab a sandwich only from Chic-Fil-A for breakfast/lunch on the way to work, and then grab dinner from Panera, either a salad or a sandwich with an apple or somesuch.  I think I still have a few oranges I can toss in my bag to keep me going for snacks, so I'll do that.

I guess this is what I have to get used to for the near future.  7-12s is something I've known is coming, but I thought I had more time until it happened.  I'll have to adjust when/how I shop to accommodate a 12 hour instead of 8-10 hour work schedule.

I need to get my fat ass in gear and get out the door, mind the stepchildren, Fatheads!

Hungry Drunk

Decided to experiment with drinking night last night with mixed results.

Weight:  295.5 lbs
Body Fat: 40.6%
Water:    45.5%

I stuck to my routine during work and before work, but when I got home, I had a peanut butter sandwich made with raisin bread and an orange, prior to playing Halo and drinking Diet Dr. Pepper and Rum.  You see, I'm a firm believer in a solid carb base prior to commencing to drinking.  At around midnight, I had Jimmy Johns delivered, and I ate a Gargantuan (all the things) before going to bed (I have a Club Lulu, which is bacon and turkey, in the fridge for tonight).

Clearly, this didn't work out perfectly, so I will moderate my activity tonight a little better and see how the results go.  Perhaps I will eat half the Club Lulu prior to consuming adult beverages, and the other half when I go all "I must consume all the things!".

At any rate, I'm grabbing breakfast and setting up my dinner/lunch for work as I usually do, because there's always overtime to be had here.

Enjoy your Saturday, Fatheads!

G'day, Fatheads!

I'm getting used to living in an office, instead of on the factory floor.  As a result of this, I've come up with a fun new office game!  One thing you don't get on the floor, because of background noise, is people having hushed conversations where they're clearly trying to discuss something private/proprietary/etc without being overheard.

The game is this: immediately upon walking by/noticing one of these, you march right up to them and say, "everyone can hear what you're saying and it is incredibly offensive!"  After this, walk away quickly before they have a chance to respond.

[Source]

I just stumbled that, thought that everyone should enjoy it.

For dinner last night, I had a Lean Cuisine pizza, some romaine lettuce and light ranch dressing, a peach and some yogurt.  For lunch, I had a yogurt and a peach.  I had 2 South Beach bars for snacks at different points.  It occurs to me that I am essentially eating like a lacto-ovo vegetarian, apart from the Lean Cuisine meals.  This concerns me, as I'd hate to be taken for some kind of hippie.

I'm going to go grab breakfast, prepare lunch and get ready for work.  I don't think I'll have time for a workout this morning, but if I finish eating in about 20 minutes I may.

Gettin' to it, Fatheads!

The Taste You'll Get Used To

I was at work until after 3am last night, not for any exciting or challenging project, but because I got deep into some training that I didn't want to stop until I'd finished it.

Weight:  296.4 lbs
Body Fat: 40.4%
Water:    45.7%

Of course, that's not such a terrible thing, it's always nice to get payed, after all, and this means I can use less vacation for my time off, last week.  I had some dry lettuce, some manner of Lean Cuisine spring rolls, some carrots and a Light&Fit yogurt for dinner last night.  I had 2 South Beach snack bars, some carrots and a yogurt for lunch.

On the way home, I had to stop at the supermarket for essentials such as lettuce, salad dressing (ate just dry lettuce for lunch yesterday, it was unappetizing) and laundry detergent.  So glad that the nice one by me is 24 hours.

This morning, I'm eating the same thing I did yesterday (not even giving you a new picture).  Kashi cereal, a slice of raisin bread toast, a banana, and a peach.  On the subject of the Kashi cereal: always amazing to me how much better health food tastes when you haven't allowed yourself to eat real food for a couple of days.

Not exactly "new" but new enough to me.

I'd seen this before, but I came across it yesterday morning before I went to work, and it made me laugh... and cry a little.

Didn't get to working out yesterday, just didn't have the time before I had to get ready for work.  Going to be a similar story today, since I woke up fairly late.  Maybe tomorrow morning?

Ate half a bag of lettuce, 2 tbsp of light bleu cheese dressing, 2 south beach snack bars, a lean cuisine spring rolls meal (half a package), some carrots, an apple and an orange at work yesterday.  Microwaved a mess of popcorn via brown paper bag method last night when I got home, and it is so much better than air-popped if you like it slightly burnt (and I do!).  Thank you, person who introduced me to this method.

At any rate, I'm eating some more of this Kashi nonsense for breakfast, along with a slice of raisin bread toast, a peach and a banana.

Don't know if I'll have time to work out this morning, as I woke up at 8:30 instead of 8, and yesterday I was pushing the bounds of lateness, but I shall if I have time, and put it on a later entry if I do.

Still need to put together a lunch for today, so I'm going to get to that.

I rocked out to the various electronic and dance sounds of the iPod Shuffle while watching SLC Punk, and I have to say that New Order - Confusion was an amusing juxtaposition with the punk club scene.

This is completely unrelated to anything, ever, YOU'RE WELCOME!  Now I need to clean myself up and head to work.  I packed lunch/dinner/snack before I got on the elliptical, so I'm good to go.

Back In The Saddle

Back in the saddle.  First full standard work-day with groceries in tow and appropriate wakeup time, and I'm comfortable calling it a success.

I'm engaging in more fruit consumption than I did when I was on Nutrisystem, largely because it is summer, I live in the south, and peaches are fantastic... the oranges are more a product of "it goes in my bag without needing any packaging".  Today, I consumed 1 bag of romaine lettuce (it's a cheap way to keep my lazy ass from finding excuses not to have salads) which was spread across my lunch and dinner, a small thing of carrots (I need to measure my tupperware sizes), 1 small Fuji apple, a yogurt (60 cal Light&Fit, because I'm like, totally soul-sisters with Heidi Klum, ya'll!), and a BBQ Chicken Pizza from Lean Cuisine for dinner.  Oh, and some manner of Maple South Beach Snack Bar.

I think the Lean Cuisine Pizza I ate may actually have new packaging, but whatever, it was good.  Keep in mind, this food was spread across a 10-hour period, and was mostly portioned around a meal at noon and another at 6ish.  When I got home, I ate a peach and an orange, because I was hungry, and I don't really have anything around I can be bad with, except possibly popcorn... but I don't have any butter, and air-popped bare popcorn is not delicious.

That's enough nonsense for me for one night, I'm trying an electronics off at 11 rule, and this isn't the only thing I wanted to use my computer for tonight... I didn't mean to make that joke, I need to pay bills.

G'night, Fatheads!

Of course, to those of us who worked the weekend, this day carries none of the awful stigma that it does for the rest of you.  I ended up continuing to eat fast food through lunch yesterday, but finally made it to the grocery store last night.

I have stocked up on various fruits and vegetables, as well as a box of some terrifying Kashi cereal and a stack of Lean Cuisine meals.  I'm grabbing a breakfast right now of a cup of whatever this cereal is made of (fiber?) and skim milk, an apricot, a banana, a yogurt and a slice of raisin bread toast.

Of course, there's also the half-gallon of water I choke down with breakfast.

Words of wisdom to get you through Monday.

Stumbled a bit yesterday, as I still haven't quite made it to the grocery store.  Grabbed Arby's for lunch, Chic-Fil-A for dinner and ordered some JJ's for second dinner (hey, I'm on a 10am-2am wakefullness schedule, gimme a break).

Good Vacation

Howdy, ya'll!

Weight:   303.8 lbs
Body Fat: 42.5%
Water:    44%

Well, I just got back from a 6.5 day vacation, and I'm itching to get back to work and back on a decent food routine.  I'm now working noon to 9 or so most days, although I need to flex time for 3 days this week and half a day last week, so I'm going to be working over the weekend and more like 11am-10pm most days for a bit.

I'm working on exactly what my new schedule's going to be, as far as food and working out are concerned.  I'm thinking about an 8am wakeup, followed by breakfast, workout, showering/personal time, and then a light lunch when I get to my desk (fruit/granola bar/yogurt sort of thing).  I'll probably have a snack around 3 or so (similar choices to lunch) and then have a full dinner at 6 or 7.  I'm not 100% on what I'm going to start doing for the dinner meal, but salad+Lean Cuisine (or the large quantity of Nutrisystem I have in my pantry) seems the likely choice.

I'm not currently planning on re-upping my Nutrisystem order.  I have a large amount of the stuff sitting around in very asymmetrical quantities, and the hassle of having more ordered/delivered when I want to be free to take non-local temporary assignments is not worth it.

I'm stuck with takeout for food today, but I'm going to go grocery shopping tonight when I get off of work (the nice grocery stores here are 24/7).  Back to a regular update schedule soon.

Jesus Christ, when did I start not minding yogurt?  So I've got a spare minute this morning, so I thought I'd actually say what the hell I've been eating this week.

Enjoy this picture of a mountain.

Breakfasts have been a bit of a rush, with me trying to get a lunch together while eating.  I've been having 2 pieces of raisin toast, and usually a banana or another piece of fruit, before leaving for work.

In my lunches, I've been packing a mess of romaine lettuce and light bleu cheese dressing for lunch, along with 2 oranges, a miscellaneous piece of fruit, 2 yogurts, the occasional granola bar, and some cashews.  This has pretty well stretched across the course of my days, which have lasted up to 9pm some nights (to be fair, I'm transitioning to a swing shift of 12-8:30).

Dinners have been a bit more of a hodgepodge affair.  I've grabbed dinner with co-workers a few nights, but I've been trying to keep with a rule of minimizing carbohydrates and focusing on protein (grilled/steamed vegetables instead of fries, no fried entrees, etc.).

Bird Is The Word

First let me say that I definitely didn't properly hydrate yesterday.

Weight:   299.4 lbs
Body Fat: 41.2%
Water:    45%

One of the reasons I know I'm dehydrated can be seen below.

As a bit of a pep rally/employee involvement type thing, the Company flew this plane down to the site yesterday, and allowed the use of personal cameras for the event.  Camera use was not permitted inside the buildings, but was permitted for the landing and taxi of the bird.  As a result, I was outside in the lovely weather for around an hour, on the reflective white surface of tarmac.

They felt the need to play this song, and others, during the taxi.  Lunch packed, raring to go for the day.  Have an exciting day, Fatheads!

June 24, 2011

Still Alive

G'day Fatheads.

I know it's been quite awhile, but I have valid excuses!  I've been on travel assignment for the Company for the last 75 or so days, basically.  I was gone for 29 days, then I was on the road for vacation for about 5 days, and then I was gone 2 days later for another 29 days on the road for the Company.  Plus side: I've got top-tier status on most of my travel accounts.  Minus side: I had the company feed me whatever my fat little heart desired.

I was up in the Seattle area for the travel, and I tried to get out for day hikes (that is Mt. Pilchuck), but I was mostly working 7 days a week, with many of those days being 12 hours long.  I mostly ate as I ought, but I certainly had some misbehavior happening, especially for the last week and a half of this past trip.

Weight:   300.4 lbs
Body Fat: 41.5%
Water:    44.8%

So I'm up many pounds from my last weigh-in.  Around 18-20 lbs, and I am very disappointed in myself.  I really considered putting this off for a day or two, but I've never found there's any point in delaying pain.

I really need to develop a schedule that works for me and a healthy diet.  I'm switching to a (nominal) 8-hour split shift (between 1st and 2nd) in the near future (scheduled either 10am or 12pm to 6:30pm or 8:30pm), but that will actually be probable minimum 10-hour days at 6 per week, eventually getting closer to 12/7s, as our workload ramps up.

I'm going on vacation again in another week, but I'm going to try and drop some weight before I do.  While I'm on vacation, I'm probably going to destroy whatever progress I make in the next week, but at least this will put a dent in whatever gain I might make.

Cogito Ergo Doleo, Fatheads, and thanks for the continued support.

Saturday Morning Weigh In

I feel rather dehydrated this morning.  I only drank about 4 quarts of water all day yesterday, so I'm fairly certain my numbers are lower today as a result of that.

Weight:   282 lbs
Body Fat: 37.9%
Water:    47.7%

I had a snack bar for breakfast, and then went out to lunch with coworkers where I had fried catfish, mac&cheese and about a third of the fries they served me.  For dinner last night, I had one Miller Lite at around 9:30-10 (liquid bread etc. etc.).  Now, I'm off to work, so that I can continue to keep myself in the style to which I have become accustomed.  Tonight: we party.

As an aside, these weigh-in posts were originally meant to be a stopgap for when I absolutely didn't have time to write a full food log and other rambling madness.  I realize that they've become more the norm than an exception, but my sleep/work/social schedule is keeping me from writing much more, and I'd like to think that the most important part of the whole process is still being conveyed: the numbers.  Still, apologies for not managing the full load that I'd originally been doing.

I had a South Beach bar for breakfast, a yogurt and an apple for mid-morning snack, and a small bag of peanuts for lunch.  For dinner, I had Chinese delivery of teriyaki chicken skewers and some fried dumplings (the skewers alone weren't enough to meet the minimum order).

I had to do a bunch of laundry and cleaning yesterday, and ironing took up far too much of my time.  One of these days, I'll get back into an exercise rhythm, I'm sure.

God Save Donald Duck, Vaudeville and Variety

The long march towards progress begins.  Someone recently asked me if I wasn't still on Nutrisystem, and I jokingly responded "sort of, I'm undergoing lifestyle change".

Weight:   284.2 lbs
Body Fat: 38.4%
Water:    47.2%

Mostly a joke, but not entirely.  I had a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast yesterday, a small turkey and bacon (I feel I may have been shorted on the bacon) sandwich for lunch, and another bagel and cream cheese at around 4 or so.  This is hardly the healthiest day I've had, but it's reasonable and not exactly unhealthy.  Certainly a far more bready day than I like to have, but we work with what we've got.

Today, I actually woke up and got out of bed at the right time, so I've prepared my breakfast to Nutrisystem spec, as well as packed my traditional snacks/lunch for work.  It's odd, for most of the last week or so, I've become used to just grabbing a South Beach snack bar for breakfast, which is just fine for when I'm in a hurry, but this feast of a piece of raisin bread, a Nutrisystem Chocolate Chip Scone and a small juice box just feels like a lot of food for breakfast.  Maybe it was the quart of water I drank before eating (I do try to drink a half-gallon with breakfast... and I just hit that mark, whoopee).

I spend all day going up and down stairs at work, especially at the location I switched to this week.  Even if I didn't need to go climbing about to do my job, there's about 2 flights between me and the restroom, and I try to drink at least 4 quarts over the course of my day.  You can imagine what this means for my relationship with the restroom.

When I was younger, meaning as recently as my teens (I'm not all that old, I have to remind myself) I always used to take the stairs two at a time.  At some point in my fatness, it became uncomfortable to continue to do so.  Yesterday, I realized I'd started up that habit on an occasional basis again.

Feels good, bro.

Experimental Log

So I decided I wanted to try writing today's entry on the iPad, since I'm planning on trying to use it for business travel. This will, of course, mean basically nothing to you, but I find it interesting how many of the Google apps and accounts I take for granted on my other devices are verboten on this thing. If I DO travel without a personal laptop, I'm going to have to find a way to upload photos taken with my DSLR. The Droid has great integration with my Picasa albums, so any pictures taken with it are always easy to upload.

Weight:   289.6 lbs
Body Fat: 39.3%
Water:    46.5%

I'm fairly happy with that, since the weekend was a net weight loss, despite a certain amount of drinking and improper eating that took place. I mostly behaved myself, but there were certainly some moments if bad behavior. For dinner last night, I ordered chinese pandit noodles and teriyaki chicken skewers. I tossed a little more than half of the noodles, so that was good? otherwise, I didn't exactly eat yesterday, except for a South Beach bar in the morning, and some Nutrisystem lunch bar. Back to the grind today, though.

I suppose I could get the SD card attachment, transfer photos from the DSLR to the iPad, and then transfer photos onto the micro SD card for the phone... I hate this already. I definitely need to buy a few more SD cards, on that related note, since I can fill up 4GB without really trying in an afternoon on that camera, and I don't want to burn iPad memory on picture warehousing. Thank god SD cards have become so cheap.

I keep trying to use my mouse on the damned thing, because I'm sitting next to my computer with it. Need to break myself of that at some point.

All right, have a good one, Fatheads.

March 27, 2011

Never Volunteer

... because there's always more to do than you think there is.  I was at work fairly late last night (around 8) and I realized while I was there that I would need to return this morning.

Weight:     288.2 lbs
Body Fat: 39%
Water:      46.7%

I'm comfortable with not calling this weight gain, as I was completely dehydrated yesterday morning, and that's why my weight was ridiculously low.  Yesterday, I ate a South Beach bar for breakfast, and I went out in the early afternoon for a half-sandwich and a half-salad from Panera.   For dinner, I came home and ordered a Jimmy Johns unwich (lettuce wrap) sans cheese, mayo or oil&vinegar.

I can't stop playing with my fondle-slab I picked up yesterday.  I bought an original flavor 64GB iPad, which means no camera or built-in 3G, but I also picked up a Verizon MiFi hotspot, which is about a third of the size of my cell phone, and works pretty amazingly well.  I'm starting out on the 1GB/month plan, and I only plan on keeping it activated when I'm traveling.  (hint, I'm traveling).

The travel is actually the big reason I bought the thing.  If I'm only traveling for a few days or a week for work, I travel with just the work laptop, but I don't use the work laptop for any of my personal business (blogging, reading my feedreader, Youtube, etc. etc.)  so when I travel for longer than a week, I always have to carry the extra laptop.  I have a 17" Dell that is just a fantastic machine as a desktop-replacement, but leaves something to be desired on the portability front.

Clearing security with both that and the work machine is always a bit of a chore, too (although I've yet to be the slowest person in line, fucking tourists).  I think that, somehow, having just the work laptop and the iPad will be a bit easier to deal with than the current setup.  I had to pick up a wireless keyboard for it, because the onboard one is alright for everything but actually typing long sentences.  The standard Apple case and the Verizon sleeve are both fairly worthless, so I'm looking in to an alternative right now.

I could ramble on about the damned thing, but I need to get going in to work.  Have a pleasant Sunday, Fatheads.

Whiskey You're The Devil

I had some fun last night, fatheads.  I went out, grabbed some fish appetizers for dinner, and proceeded to drink only whiskey/scotch for my entire evening.

Weight:     284.7 lbs
Body Fat: 37.7%
Water:      47.7%

Of course  as any of you serious whiskey drinkers might know, whiskey will give you serious cotton mouth/dehydration in the morning.  I just drank a G2 with a half-gallon of water back, and I'm feelling much more hydrated.  I had much fun last night, and had some fun times.  Went out with coworkers to a bar called Henry's downtown, where they have live music after 10.  The band wasn't bad, and it was an enjoyable experience.

I'm working today, but I volunteered for a split-shift, so I have some time until I said I'd be in.  I may go to the Verizon store and buy an iPad on the way to work, because they just dropped the price by 100 bucks.  Unfortunately, they only have original flavor, but it's cheap enough that I can probably justify (to myself, through deceit and subterfuge) upgrading to a 2 or a 3 at the appropriate time.

Later, Fatheads.

Gettin Live On The Spot

I was up until about 1am doing my taxes last night.  I originally meant to just do a preliminary, then deal with them over the weekend, but I ended up finishing the whole thing.

Water:      46.6%

Of course, you know this means I ain't got no time to chat.

G'day, Fatheads.

Excitements and Weigh In

Once again, I find myself short on time first thing in the AM.

Weight:     291 lbs
Body Fat: 39.8%

In related news, it sounds like I'm taking another extended work trip in the near future, so that's fun.  I'd say more, but I don't know more, yet.

Why Is My Computer Molesting Itself?

Well, I'm in a foul mood this morning.  First of all, I had one of those wonderful incidents last night where Windows, having been told not to update at all, decided to go ahead and do whatever the fuck it wants to do.

Weight:     292.8 lbs
Body Fat: 40%
Water:      46%

Of course, it really doesn't matter all that much, usually.  Almost nothing ever changes, and I just get to be annoyed that I have to restart everything I'd had open/in-work the day before.  But then, there are these happy occasions where it DOES royally fuck something up.  Apparently, it blew up my iTunes library.

Now, I'm no n00b (those are zeroes, I have just found a reason to dislike my default formatting choices) to the travails of iTunes on Windows.  I've had to replace a library from a backup before, which iTunes creates every time it updates, and at some periodic other points.  However, I don't think iTunes updated last night, and  I must have had a setting checked wrong on the damned thing in recent memory, because the most recent update to my library I can find anywhere on the PC and its extended drives is from 2010-4-17.

There's no need to get into the "this is a great time to switch!" discussion here, either.  Once the music portion of the library passed 30 gigs, I was well beyond being prepared to either manage it myself or start to use a new library management program, and it passed 70 gigs at some point last year (over 100 with regularly-loaded movies).  I've looked into it on several of the other times something has killed my iTunes (death of a laptop, windows update, death of a hard drive, etc) and there's just not another piece of software that provides me with as much thought-free updating of my various iPods.

What really annoys me is that I'm going to have to sit down with the 160 GB iPod Classic (Dan Halen) and re-create a bunch of my playlists.  Finding and adding the half-dozen podcasts I'm currently listening to sounds like ever so much fun, too.  Updating Genius is probably going to take it all day while I'm at work...

Well, enough of that.  I had a fairly low-food day yesterday.  I ate a South Beach snack bar for breakfast, grabbed a California Roll from the cafeteria at work for lunch (almost all the 'sushi' they have in the fridge case has either cream cheese in it or some kind of mayo/sour cream on it, and all the salads have fried chicken or worse in them), and I had an afternoon snack of Nutrisystem Zesty Herb Snack Mix.  For dinner, I ate the leftover half of a small artichoke hearts, steak, and feta pizza leftover from Sunday.

I fully intend to pack a lunch and snacks for today, but now, I must adjourn to the bathroom, where the miracle of razors and showers can happen.

G'day, Fatheads.

1 Year of Fatness

I realized tonight that tomorrow morning, March 22nd, is the one year anniversary of my first posting on this little monstrosity.  Tonight, I'm setting up a "Then and Now" bit of things.

Weight: 367 lbs

I started this blog weighing in at 367 lbs, as of today, a few weeks before I'd started the blog, I'd weighed in at about 380, but had decided to put off starting the blog for a short period as a result.  Without sorting through the fossil records, I achieved a low weight in the last year of about 287 lbs, and today, I weigh:

Weight:     295.4 lbs
Body Fat: 40.5%
Water:      45.6%

I'm down about 72 lbs from this time last year.  Most of that weight was lost in the first 3 months of the program, but I mostly kept it off, with an up-down of around 20-30 lbs during the worst period, and more recently a fluctuation ranging around 8-10 lbs, but trending downwards.  Nutrisystem's a good program that has worked for me, and I intend to keep using it to finish what I've started.

I would like to have lost more weight last year, obviously, but I'm not unhappy with being able to lose that much and pretty much keep it off.  I'm especially happy with the fact that my fluctuations when I go off the rails are decreasing.  If I can have a repeat performance of last year this year, I may very well  be able to enter the 3rd year of this part of my life saying that I just need to maintain my weight until I die.

Of course, one would be remiss to discuss the last year without mentioning the worst part: the 6 months of unemployment (preceded by 3+2 months of WARN time where I wasn't working the previous year) without a serious prospect of a new job.  It wasn't until late June of last year that I even had a callback from an employer, and by the end of July, I had a job I was going to start in the early fall.  As you know, I spent most of my day every day (10+ hours) looking for work online or calling whatever contacts I could scrounge up.  There are quite literally thousands of engineers right now with my skillset and experience or better looking for the same jobs I was looking for.  It's become a much better climate for my kind, the rare wild AE, but thousands are still unemployed, underemployed, or dead.

You find meaning in some banal activity like trying to improve yourself and bragging about it on the internet, and you muddle through your days.  We waste what little cash reserve we might have on trifles and trips where we sleep in our cars.  I learned quite a bit about myself, went a little bit more crazy than I was before, and made some minor improvements in myself during that period, so I'm OK with calling it a wash.  My career's back on track, I like my car and my apartment, and I love the city I'm in.

It's been a good year, Fatheads, and this next year should be much better.

Fatass, out.

Tourism Weekend

Well, Fatheads, it's been a very exciting weekend here down in Charleston.  I apparently took about 2 gigs worth of pictures while my brother was visiting, and much exciting food and drink was consumed as a part of our tourist experience.

Weight:     298.4 lbs
Body Fat: 41.4%
Water:      44.9%

But now, the weekend is over, and it's time to assess the damage.  I'm up about 10 lbs from Friday, although much of that is almost certainly water weight.  We had a great time checking out the many exciting restaurants the city has to offer, as well as imbibing at what might be called an unhealthy level by some, but I would refer to as a properly robust level.

This is a digital photograph of someone painting a building.  Unfortunately, there exists no proper photograph of the fantastic meals we ate, which encompassed the entirety of exciting food options from the city.  Several meals of seafood, along with one of our more exciting pizza joints here in town.

Today, it's back to the typical foods:  South Beach snack bar for breakfast, then typical snacks/lunch during the day at work.   What little remains of the "guest food" is either going in to work with me today or it's going in the trash.  I need to keep some snacks around for poker night, but I can ignore that stuff if it's shoved away in a drawer.  My feet are beat to hell from some of the walking this weekend (the shoes I wore Saturday night were definitely not intended for either walking or stumbling whatever distance was involved) so I'm probably going to try and take it easy on my feet for a few days, after which I'll get back on the elliptical to punish my horrible body for my sins.

In somewhat similar news, the brother just got one of the new fondle-slabs and has been showing it off this weekend, giving me a desire to own one of my very own.  I'm thinking that, after I do my taxes, I'll look at possibly buying one.  My typical buying pattern for Apple products is to wait until about 4-6 months, minimum, after the version I want comes out and just buy a refurb, but I may decided to break that pattern for the touchiness.  I'm happy with my current Dell monstrosity  of a laptop, so I don't really need a new primary computing device, and I have some problems with the idea of buying a not-entire-new-computer for a price higher than that of my last new main computer, but screw it.  We wants it.

Experience terror.  Those are the most lifeless, zombified eyes I've ever seen.  Looking at them, one can't help but feel that the deep ones are reaching out for the minds and souls of the innocent YouTube user, carelessly meandering the net, looking only to understand a strange new meme.  There can be no help for any of us now.  The God is dead, and the old ones have come, all that can be hoped for is to be eaten first before we are driven to self-immolating insanity by the ones to whom we are as ants.  IA IA! Cthulu Ftagn!

Here, an autotune palate cleanser.  I'm so sorry to have done that to any of you so early in the morning, I know I won't be the same ever again.

Well, I'm off to the shower and then work, after which I need to take the bro to the airport.

Keep the faith, Fatheads, we'll get there.

Weekend Happy Times

I've got family visiting this weekend, and it's been an excuse for me to spend this whole week cleaning and reorganizing my apartment.  I just walked out of my bathroom last night, after having finished, and said: "holy shit, it looks like an actual adult lives here".

Weight:     289.6 lbs
Body Fat: 39.4%
Water:      46.4%

Albeit a somewhat nerdy, possibly immature adult (the game consoles in multiple rooms of the house and art deco-style anti-cylon propaganda posters and "see the verse" travel posters on the walls give it away, not to mention the two Halo Legendary Edition [3 and reach]) but still, an adult.  I don't think my last apartment ever achieved this level of organization.  Possibly cleanliness, but definitely not organization.

At any rate, it's Friday, so small meals only, and no meat.  I'll basically be grabbing South Beach and Nutrisystem bars for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack, and heading out to dinner with the family when they arrive.

Also, I think I have a new favorite meme, and this is my new favorite picture from it:

Originally seen here.

I won't be posting/getting weighed over the weekend.  Company means I'll be eating out for most meals and doing some amount of drinking (there's a fresh Cornelius keg of Sam Adams in the kegerator).   Have a safe and enjoyable weekend, and don't do anything Gary Busey wouldn't do.

That's all I've got, Fatheads.
